Versed is some pretty awesome stuff--Iz was on it for a couple days until I could hold her because she was so upset that I wouldn't pick her up and nurse her--she asked and asked and she just couldn't :( They would give her half doses to calm her and help her sleep. They gave her a full dose to knock her out completely when they took our her pacer wires and the child stayed awake the entire time--they were really surprised since they were sure the dose they gave her would put her out. She seems to take after me (they gave me a heavy duty sedative when I had my wisdom teeth out and I was awake the entire time.....).

How is Broc doing? Any improvements with the eye movements or is it too soon?

WOw that is so well said.All the emotions come flooding back to me as I think of his OHS and of his up coming surgery.That is why I said thank goodness for Versed.As soon as Broc has it he has no recollection of what is happening after that.

Great news for sitting up by herself. I dont think the worry goes away too soon.Broc will be 5 in June and I still check on him at least twice in the night.Before I go sleep and when I wake up to use the restroom.

Ah yay for sitting up by herself! And my little guy usually sleeps through the night even with no longer getting his continuous feed for 6 if the hours at night. I don't sleep through the night either I always check him!

I think perhaps worrying about the scar, for me, was and is a way to step back from the bigger worries that come with a heart baby and major surgery. The worry leading up to and during and immediately after surgery can be crushing--worrying about a scar is looking ahead to a time when things are easier. She survived, she is healing, she is doing so much better and someday, she will worry about a scar instead of worrying about whether or not she will make it, you know? So worry about her scar I will whenever I need a break from the bigger worries ;)

Your little Annie is so adorable! She has been through so much just from a quick glance over your blog! I hope things continue to get better for her :)

Me too! Hannah had her surgery the same day as Iz and was discharged one day before. I still don't feel like this has happened and I certainly haven't 'dealt' with it--I'm afraid I'm going to have a major meltdown in the grocery store one day! I guess I'm just so thankful as to how well she's doing I'm not sure how to process what she's done! Glad I'm not alone!

I totally know how you feel! My daughter had OHS at 3 months of age a little over a year ago, and some days I still can't believe all that has happened to her since she was born! It seems so surreal sometimes. It was a tough road for a long time, but I do see light now (knock on wood). I also know how you feel about the scar. It seems so odd to worry about something seemingly unimportant, but one day it may be important to our little girls, so of course we worry about it! I am not sure how I found your blog, but I have enjoyed reading about Iz. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers!

The more I see of her surgeon, the more I love him :) He is so patient focused instead of protocol focused and he was teaching his students to be the same on rounds :) Not just with Iz but with his other patients as well--some docs just don't acknowledge that going by the books just isn't the best way for everyone and I am very happy that he looks beyond that. Some of the residents questioned him breaking protocol for Iz and he kindly talked to them about how some babies just need that contact in order to do well and in those cases, you adjust. :)

My boys certainly were happy to see us back home :) My two year old couldn't decide if he should laugh or cry so he did both at the same time--it was hilarious and I kinda wish I had it on video ;)
